The luxury British sportscar and supercar company, McLaren celebrates the 20,000th car to be hand-assembled at its McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Woking, Surrey.
Pictured here is the 20,000th car built which is a right-hand drive 600LT Spider in sleek Chicane Grey from the brand’s Sports Series line-up. Launched last summer as the next chapter in the McLaren ‘Longtail’ story, all production slots for the Coupe variant have already been filled.
While McLaren’s production reached just over 4,800 cars in 2018 to meet rising global demand, output will remain around 5,000 a year into the next decade before increasing to 6,000. This should be true with the launch of McLaren’s latest addition, the McLaren GT
The 620PS / 630Nm 4.0 twin turbo powered addition to the McLaren range is geared towards long distance cruising, locking horns with the likes of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera and the Bentley Continental GT. It may be geared towards long distance driving comfort, but since it sports a McLaren badge, it still snaps to 200kph in 9.0 seconds and tops out at 326kph. Stay tuned for our full first impression on the McLaren GT.
McLaren is slowly but surely expanding its brand presence from being a bespoke motorsports derived hypercar manufacturer to a serious luxury marque. Time will tell if we will see just as many McLarens on the Malaysian streets as we do Porsches, Ferrari’s and Bentleys.
