Ops Selamat: On the spot RM300 fine for 6 offences this Chinese New Year Holidays

Its time for this years Chinese New Year and that means bulk of Malaysians will be criss crossing across Malaysia via air, sea and land to their respective hometowns for the long holidays.

Needless to say the highways are going to be congested starting from Thursday and with higher traffic comes higher risks of traffic incidents.
To kerb this, Polis DiRaja Malaysia has shortlisted 6 traffic offence for on the spot RM300 fine for this years Ops Selamat, starting from January 29th – 12th February

Traffic offences that will get you the said fine are;

  1. Driving in the emergency lane
  2. Driving above the speed limit
  3. Usage of mobile phone while driving
  4. Not obeying the traffic lights
  5. Overtaking on the double line
  6. Que cutting

Although the 1st offence seem harmless, there has been incidents in the past where a life was lost because the emergency vehicles could not reach the victims on time due to a clogged up emergency lane. Needless to say this penalty could not have come at a better time.

In the wake of a grim accident like the one we saw taking place on the Penang bridge recently, we at Route Hunters urge all Malaysians to take your time when travelling this festive season, and be considerate to others when on the highway. The open road is to be enjoyed by all and its no place for an ego clash or showdown of any sort. Happy holidays guys

Just, dont end up like this!
