First thing to be clear of is that this is NOT a face lifted car rather an enhanced version of the existing Peugeot line up. We at Route Hunters managed to sneak a peek at the soon-to-be-launched Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUV Plus cars in both Active and Allure form and here are 10 things you should know ahead of the launch date.
Active spec cars now have leather seats
Unlike the previous versions, the Active now has leather seats. Both the 3008 and the new 5008 Active spec cars now feature seats wrapped in Claudio Leather, as opposed to the Fabric seats of the pre-enhanced cars.
All cars come with powered front seats
And also new to the 3008 and 5008 cars, both the driver and passenger seats are now power adjustable. The front driver seats offer 8 way adjustments on both variants (Active / Allure) of the 3008 and the 5008 SUV’s. For the passenger seats, you can now adjust it 6 ways.
i-Cockpit amplify
The i-Cockpit is now enhanced with a more options display options and two display colors. The new displays include Driving and Navigation, over the existing Personal, Minimum and Dial modes. In the Navigation mode, your map will be displayed on the 12.3 inch display while the Driving mode will show the car and the lane keep You can choose between Blue or Bronze colors accents for the displays too.
Panoramic roof for Allure variants
Finally available for the 3008 and the 5008 is the panoramic roof. This time its not just a fixed glass roof over the cars, it actually opens up, and its the biggest panoramic sunroof in its class.
Motorised tailgate for the 3008
Its on the wish list of lots of existing 3008 owners, the car finally comes with a motorized tailgate with Hands-free function. Which means you can activate the tailgate but swiping your feet under the rear bumper. Mind you this function is only available for the Allure spec 3008 and 5008 SUV’s.
On board navigation
Another new feature for the 3008 and the 5008 is the on board navigation system. The map can be viewed via the 8 inch touch screen or the 12.3 inch instrument display. The map can be displayed in 3 dimensional. As for the efficiency of the system, we would have to wait until we test drive the new cars.
Active lane keep assist
This time your lane keep assist does not just send out alert. The Active Lane Keep assist in the enhanced versions of the 3008 and the 5008 pulls you back into your lane. The system’s activation will also be shown on the 12.3 inch screen under the Driving mode.
BLISS against blind spots
Also another long overdue function for the 3008 is the Blind Spot Monitoring System or BLISS. Some of the tell tale signs of the system was seen in the pre-enhanced car, but its finally available in the enhanced versions. As owners of the 3008, we cannot stress enough on how handy this system will be in daily usage.
Driver Attention alert III system
Also in the line of safety is the Driver Attention Alert III. The system uses a forward facing camera to determine the direction and the way the vehicle is moving. If the system senses the vehicle moving away from the lane in an unnatural manner, it will sense that the driver is asleep or distracted at the wheel, prompting a loud audio warning. If the vehicle still continues in that manner then a message will appear asking you to take a break.
New colors – Aster Grey / Nera Black
Last but not least, the 3008 and 5008 now feature new colors. For the 3008, there’s now the option of Aster Grey and Nera Black for the first time, and in the 5008, the Aster Grey color will be made available.
The Enhanced Versions of the Peugeot 3008 goes for RM150,888 (Active) and RM163,888 (Allure). The Enhanced Version of the Peugeot 5008 goes for RM166,888 (Active) and RM179,888 (Allure). The panoramic roof, powered passenger seats and motorised tailgate alone will cost over RM10,000 to be retrofitted on to the existing Peugeot 3008 and 5008. Therefore the additional RM9000 for the Peugeot 3008 and the RM7000 for the Peugeot 5008 Enhanced versions do a compelling justification of their prices with the additional kits offered. But will that be enough to sway buyers from the likes of the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 and Proton X70? Share your thoughts in the comments below
Need to test the real thing to be convinced.
By all means, we always encourage our patrons to EXTENSIVELY test drive the cars you are considering to buy, because the proof is in the pudding and if you cant test the car on various road / traffic conditions you encounter daily then you wont know if its the choice for your daily commute.
Hi, I owned 3008 and going into 8th year of driving the car. It gives comfort and safety whilst I admit that I love driving the car all these years. The new breed of 3008 definately offers practical accessories and worth to explore. However, Peugeot quality is undeniably much weaker compared to other brands. Every since I bought the car, on 2nd year it has started to give problem whilst for the past 7 years now, I had to change my aircond compressor twice. Its sensors kept on failing one by one and recent trauma my car had to be kept the workshop due to major engine fault. E-mails send to Peugeot were not replied. It signals they couldn’t be bothered to reply and assist in the hours of need. Although how good your new variant has set in for a bargain, I would never consider of coming back to you. Not worth spending my time on this unproductive setback.
Hi Hamzah, our editor shared the same concerns after all the horror stories from the previous 308, 408, and 3008. But the 3008 you see on our pages in our long term report is his 2nd car, after his 208 gti. His GTi has clocked 139,000km and the new 3008 has clocked 54,000km in 1 year 6 months. He claims the 3008 is far better built and both cars have remained fault free despite hard usage. Therefore we daresay the drawbacks of the previous generation cars have been addressed in the new ones. The cars are very beautiful and the layout in the cabin is superb in both cars…only gripe is the small capacity engine to pull both the cars…what a shame.
We have no complains about the 1.6 engine for the 3008 as its very punchy from as low as 2000rpm. I mean, its got more torque than a 2.4 Accord. However we do wish the 5008 comes with a diesel variant, it would be much more suited to the nature of the car. Would you agree?
Contemplating between this new 3008 and X70. Been reading a lot of good reviews about 3008, only maintenance cost and after sales service from Nasim that always makes people think twice about owning 3008. But interior wise, IMHO, 3008 has the best amongst all crossover SUVs hands-down.
Yes Wan, though the servicing cost at almost RM600 for every 10,000km is the priciest among the lot, you save a great deal on fuel consumption, brakes and enjoy a much refined ride compared to its rivals thanks to the low kerbweight. Plus the difference in maintenance cost is not that significant too, with the X70 costing almost RM400 to service and more in some cases.
I am interested to know if the 5008 rear passenger seats are still 3 individual adjustable seats or they are now similar to the 3008 with a 60:40 split?
Hi YT, the seats are now split 60:40 like the Citroen C3 Aircross. Its no longer the 3 individual seats as before.
