The 3 pointed star now has a new electrically powered family member, marking its first Southeast Asia presence, the new Mercedes-Benz EQC is the first of the EQ line set to redefine what we know about e-mobility.With technical know-how from Mercedes-Benz’s storied 130 years of automobile engineering, the masterminds over at Stuttgart have taken a “human-centred innovation” approach to make e-mobility simple, reliable and convenient for the customer.
Being an EV (electrical vehicle) there is a 0 g/km carbon dioxide emission. Now if that isn’t enough to whet your performance hungry appetite, rest assured that the asynchronous motors in the Mercedes-Benz EQC generates an output of 300 kW (408 hp) and a maximum combined torque of 760 Nm.
It also sports a very unique look with a large back-panel surface encompassing the headlamps and large grill that houses a huge three-pointed star. The stunning multibeam LED lights that come with the EQC feature contrasting blue stripes which indicates that this is an EQ series vehicle. There are also rose gold coloured aircon vents and flowing lines that sweep through the top of the dashboard to further distinguish the crossover-suv EQC from the rest of the lineup.
The Mercedes-Benz Infotainment System dubbed the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) comes standard in the EQC and creates an emotional link between driver, vehicle and passengers. Thanks to artificial intelligence, MBUX with Widescreen Cockpit comprising two 10.25″ displays and touchscreen control (right screen) has the ability to learn items like dialects and EQC-specific commands.
The centrepiece of the Mercedes-Benz EQC is the lithium-ion battery arranged in the vehicle floor. With an energy content of 80 kWh, it employs a sophisticated operating strategy to supply the vehicle with power, enabling an electric range of 445 – 471 km. The battery is also liquid cooled and sits low and centralised which helps with the handling characteristics of the EQC.
The EQC can be charged at a domestic power socket which would take approximately 11 hours, but the add-on to get is the Mercedes-Benz Wallbox Home charging station which will charge the on-board battery from 10% to 80% in just 40 minutes. In cooperation with a country-specific charger installation partner, Mercedes-Benz also offers easy and rapid installation of the Mercedes-Benz Wallbox and professional advice on all aspects of e-mobility to keep EQC owners at ease.
