We were there at last year’s show, which had a whole lot of attraction sprawled across the MAEPS Exhibition Centre. There were off-road driving experiences, a near-vertical hill climb in a pickup truck and plenty of new and exotic cars spread across multiple halls.
This year’s no exception either, with more attractions, cars, and activities, the team behind the Malaysia Autoshow have truly upped the ante for this year. So if it all seems a little overwhelming, then here’s a quick rundown on the 5 must do activities of this year’s show!
New Cars
A mark of a good car show has to be its list of new cars. The Malaysia Autoshow 2019 is no exception either, everything from the humble special edition Perodua Bezza, the 2019 Proton Persona and Iriz models to the ultra-futuristic BMW i3S electric hatch, they are all here.
Special mention has to be made about the Perodua concept vehicles and the wildly outlandish Honda Civic Type R Mugen Concept that graces the Honda Malaysia stand. The Type R has already received varied comments on its ‘striking’ looks, but Mugen takes that look and turned the dial up to 11. Love it or hate it, it’s quite the sight to behold.
Modded cars
The only way you can top the outlandish look of the Mugen furnished Type R is in the tuning scene. This year’s motorshow has a huge collection of modded cars which are running on our streets. Everything from a Tomei engined R34, a lovely Starlet, and two lovely Mazda Familia GTR’s grace the hall floor.
Our personal favorite though has to be a clean and simple looking Toyota Celica GT-Four. Looking like a decal free replica of the Group B Rally car, the car has some lovely bits all around it and even has a matching license plate. Only the truly passionate will appreciate.
Test Drives
The advantage of hosting a car show at MAEPS is the amount of space the venue has. This makes it the perfect place for a test drive. The participating manufacturers like Kia, Proton, and even Mercedes Benz has test drive vehicles for you to test at the show. So if you like a car you see at the show be sure to ask the representatives at the stand, you might be able to test drive it!
Outdoor Activites
Just like last year, there’s a list of outdoor activities that will take place at the Malaysia Autoshow. Everything from Perodua’s autonomous braking demo, off road driving experience, a gokart track as well as drone flying competitions are all there. You can choose to be a curious bystander or in some activities participate to get a first hand experience!
Joyrides
Talking about participating, if you’re really brave enough, then be sure to take part in the Proton Joyride activity. By registering at the Proton booth in Hall A, you get to ride shotgun with either Karamjit Singh, former Production World Rally Champion or James Veerapen, the Sepang 1000kms race champion. We can go on about how both of these talented drivers are behind the wheel, but we rather let the pictures do the talking.
So if you’re thinking of something to do this weekend, then head over to MAEPS Serdang and get an adrenaline filled weekend activity with the Malaysia Autoshow 2019.
