2019 Proton Persona Upgraded: 5 things you should know about it

Proton’s tieup with Geely has seen a series of aggressive activities from our first national car maker in years. One of it is the visual and technical makeovers the rest of the Proton range has received post X70 launch.

Bolstered by the huge reception received by the Proton X70, the rest of the Proton range has undergone some changes to ensure that there’s a cohesive brand image between all the cars in the current range. The latest recipient of this makeover is the Proton Persona. Here are 5 upgrades that were made to the car that may interest you!

Family Face – Exterior Grill

The most obvious changes would be to the exterior of the car. The Proton Persona now sports the “Ethereal Bow” front grille with the “Infinite Weave” (Thanos will be proud) sculpture pattern, which comes straight off the X70’s front facia. We leave it to you to decide if you prefer the older grill or the current redesign. However it does make it look much more related to the X70 SUV, and that might appealing.

Towards the Daytime Running Lights

Along with the front grill, the reworked Persona also features different DRL’s up front. They seat rather smartly on the newly designed front bumper and air intakes, which again, brings it closer in design to the Proton X70

Branding – Take Two

Along with the subtle changes in the front and rear, there’s a change in the way the car is branded too. Gone is the Proton logo at the back of the car. Now the brands name is spelled out across the back of the car with the words Persona plastered on the side of the rear trunk lid.

New Shoes

No reworking of a car is complete without snazzy new shoes right? The new 15 inch, 8 spoke rims on the Persona now sports what Proton calls ‘Aluminum wheel design’ is less cluttered in terms of design compared to the last one. Once again since this is strictly a design feature, we let you decide if it’s to your taste.

Tech Upgrade

Last, but arguably the most significant change, is the Persona’s Infotainment system. While the full details on what its capable of and what are the functions it will sport upon launch is unclear, its safe to say that the Proton Persona’s touchscreen system will be similar to that of the Proton X70. Which means it could have the same voice command system its SUV big brother is famous for.

The Proton Persona has gotten its Geely makeover to make it relevant to the rest of the competition in the market, and to bring it closer to the X70 SUV. The Persona was already a fine car to begin with, an ideal first car for most young adults. The addition of the X70 derived infotainment system and the design updates might just do the trick on getting prospective buyers to flock the showroom floors for it. Let’s wait and see how the actual finished product feels in the real world.
