Pretty much the synonymous image for adventure bikes, the BMW GS series is now 40 years old. The internet is loaded with pictures, videos and podcasts of people literally riding across the planet with a GS. It\u2019s that good a bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To commemorate the 40th<\/sup> birthday of this go-anywhere bike, BMW Motorrad Malaysia has unveiled the 2021 BMW F850 GS \u201c 40 years of GS Edition\u201d. Here\u2019s what you need to know about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exterior features<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course the first and most striking feature about the F 850 GS 40 Years Edition has to be its exterior paint scheme. Draped in a contrasting black and yellow scheme, the mostly functional looking F850 GS will truly stand out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Complementing the paint scheme is the 40 Years GS sticker on the fuel tank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Electronic Riding Aids as standard.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GS series of bikes are known for their riding aid technology and the 40 year edition bike gets them as standard. This includes ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, Cruise Control, Gear Shift Assistance pro and 4 riding modes. You also get the MSR-Dynamic engine brake control and keyless entry, which are otherwise optional extras<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Standard electronic packages include Stability control, rain riding mode, and a 12 volt power socket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It may not have the most striking graphics or design, but what the GS has is the most practical and functional 6.5 inch TFT display. You get every information you need displayed there, with the ob board computer displaying an array of useful info. And it\u2019s going to be easy to read them in pretty much most weather and light conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still an excellent piece of kit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The business end of the GS is the inline-twin 4 stroke watercooled 853 cc engine, which puts out a healthy 95 bhp and a very useful 92Nm at 6250rpm. Its torque peak is a full 1000rpm lower than the likes of the Ducati Multistrada 950S, and the Kawasaki Versys 1000. And although the torque figure itself is marginally lower (Ducati: 96Nm \/ Kawasaki: 102Nm), the GS is just as light or lighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other convenience features include luggage rack as standard, navigator holder, heated grips, and LED daytime running lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
