Geared towards a younger target audience that lead a much active\nlifestyle, there\u2019s quite a bit the Mercedes must deliver to justify its\nRM263,888 price tag. We are going to see if Mercedes Benz&#8217;s take on what a\nsporty luxury hatch should be is worth the spend, and how far is the gap in\nterms of performance to the brilliant Volkswagen Golf GTi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dimensions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/routehunters.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC0964.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3424\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mercedes Benz A250 AMG Line is\nquite similarly proportioned to the Mk7.5 Volkswagen Golf GTi, with similar\nwidth and height. Its actually 5 mm taller than the current G20 BMW 3 series.\nHowever its a whopping 151mm longer than the Golf GTi, freeing some much needed\nlegroom for both the front and rear passengers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This makes the Mercedes feel like it\u2019s\ngot tonnes of space yet still feels snug on the inside. The additional AMG Line\ntouches like the crossed drilled brakes, the AMG Alloys, those lovely\nAlcantara-leather seats add a sporting accent to the car&#8217;s image. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Interior<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ast-oembed-container \" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe title=\"Mercedes Benz A250 AMG Line : A Golf GTi rival from Mercedes Benz?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x4QY2Yyrgq0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Where the Mercedes Benz A250 AMG Line\nreally stands out from the Golf GTi is in terms of interior ambiance. With the\nMBUX infotainment system integrating everything from car, navigation,\nentertainment and connectivity systems to one interface, its relatively easy to\nmanage each function once you get the hang of it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact that all these is displayed\non a 10.25 inch screen that runs from the driver\u2019s door to the center of the\ndashboard truly revolutionizes the way you access the car&#8217;s info and\nfunctions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/routehunters.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC0031.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3410\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For the current A class, you can\nnavigate the functions using either a touchpad or the heptic sensors on the\nsteering wheel. Not to mention the voice command system which can be activated\nby just uttering &#8220;Hi Mercedes&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In comparison to all of this, the\nVolkswagen Golf GTi feels dated, like its lagging by 2 generations behind the\nA250.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Engine<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/routehunters.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC0019.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3409\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the hood though both the Mercedes and the Golf GTi share\nsimilar outputs. Both cars put out over 220bhp, and both produce identical\n350Nm of torque. However unlike the 6 speed Golf, the Mercedes comes with a 7\nspeed double clutch gearbox. Therefore it gets to 100kph in 0.2 seconds faster\nthan the Golf GTi while returning similar claimed consumption figures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ride and\nHandling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/routehunters.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC0955.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3418\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s where we test if the Mercedes\nBenz A250 AMG Line is a luxury hatch that&#8217;s been dressed up with AMG products\nor does it truly has any sporting potential. We bench marked it against the\nGolf GTi since its the undisputed class leader in terms of blending sporting\nperformance and refinement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We would like to see just how close\nthe Mercedes can get to the driving dynamics of the Volkswagen Golf GTi, and\nthat would tell us if the Mercedes is an AMG on pure cosmetic levels or does it\ndo justice to the AMG Line badge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/routehunters.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC0930.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3413\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For that, we headed out to the Berjaya\nBukit Tinggi road and handed the keys of the Mercedes to Malaysian Rally Legend\nand Rock and Roll Enthusiast, Karamjit Singh.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on Karamjit Singh&#8217;s feedback, it\u2019s\nnot an out-and-out performance car, or specifically built to tackle the\ndemanding twists of the Bukit Tinggi road. However, in the hands of Karamjit\nSingh it did get up and down the mountain at an unbelievable pace.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2 liter engine provides plenty of\npower and the chassis keeps everything safe and predictable. There&#8217;s special\npraise for the brakes on their stopping power too!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conclusion\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"683\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/routehunters.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC0936.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3415\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mercedes Benz A250 AMG Line may\nnot be a purpose built performance hatch despite sharing similar performance\nfigures with the Golf GTi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However it does everything else so\nmuch better than any of its class rivals that you get a whole lot more car for\nyour money.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being priced RM20,000 more\nthan the Volkswagen Golf GTi at RM263,888, we would whole heartedly recommend\nthe Mercedes Benz A250 AMG Line for its MBUX user interface, accessible\nperformance, and its brand image. And that&#8217;s why for about 8% extra over the\nGolf GTi&#8217;s price, the Mercedes looks like a bargain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1
