9 things about the Electrifying Taycan Cross Tourismo

Two weeks ago we first got wind about the Taycan Cross Tourismo. We called it the Crossover from 15 years in the future, that’s arrived today. And it has. Here are 9 highlights you need to know about this ground breaking crossover!

Its a Porsche.

When was the last time you heard Porsche fumbling with its product? These guys do not muck about and they make a car, especially an all-new one. We saw the type of testing the Taycan has been put through before it’s given the title “Cross Taycan”. This car will work as intended.

800V battery architecture

Most EV’s today use a 400V architecture , the Taycan has double that. This includes for the Taycan Cross Tourismo too. This means it can take in a higher rate of current in a shorter amount of time, reducing charge time significantly. In fact if it’s on our roads today, only the DC chargers at Porsche Service Centre’s are able to match the Taycan’s maximum charging rate. Which means you can get a full charge in under 40 minutes, for a total range of over 350km in mixed driving.

Performance Battery Plus as standard

Which means all Taycan Cross Tourismo’s come with the 93.4kWh battery pack. Granted Tesla offers all its Model S’s and Model X’s now come with 100kWh battery packs, the Taycan is not far off. With these battery packs, you can get a maximum of 380km – 460km range depending on the variant.

Increased size = increased space

As we mentioned earlier, the Cross Tourismo Taycan has grown in size. This has resulted in an increase in cargo space. With all the rear seats down you can enjoy a maximum cargo space of 1200 liters. A Honda CRV offers 560 liters in its trunk.

An increase of 47mm in rear headroom

Which is a more tangible sense of space for the occupants. The Taycan Cross Tourismo’s increased roof height has allowed the rear passengers to enjoy nearly 5 cm of additional headroom. Making the rear two seats a much more comfortable place to be.

With an Optional Off-road design package

The Taycan Cross Tourismo can be specified with flared arches, flaps and more to aid it in off-road driving. It gives the car a more distinct look against the other Taycan’s. This also increased the ride height by 30mm. And when covered in mud and road grime, it does give the car a post-apocalyptic survival feel. Which is great if you’re into that sort of feel.

Its got a Gravel Mode

As we said earlier, Porsche had spent a considerable amount of time to ensure this car works off paved roads. So they have given it a Gravel mode which will allow the car to cope with loose surface. An Electric Porsche Rally car anyone?

Available in 4 variants

Which are the Taycan 4 Cross Tourismo (CT), Taycan 4S CT, Taycan Turbo CT, and Turbo S CT. The horsepower ranges from 380PS – 625PS, with acceleration from 5.1 seconds to 2.9 seconds. We would need to investigate each spec individually to learn more about each variant.

And now can be pre-orders.

The Crossover of the future, the off-roading electric car from Porsche, is now available here. Porsche Malaysia is taking in pre-orders at their centre’s nationwide. If you’re interested in getting one of this Cross Tourismo’s yourself, you can register your interest here.

The Taycan was already a landmark car after Tesla breaking the mould on how we perceived EV’s. The Cross Tourismo pushes the envelope even further. This is the sign that EV’s are going to be the way of life. And its happening right now. What are your thoughts about the Taycan Cross Tourismo? Share your thoughts in the comments!
