7 highlights of the 765LT: Why it’s not just a simple follow up

There seems to be no shortage of amazing performance vehicles as of late, all running from good ol’ fossil fuels to the yet to be accepted electricity and no I’m not referring to Tesla but the out-of-this-world Koenigsegg Gemera . But let us return to something a bit more ‘traditional’ if I may.

I’m of course talking about the 2021 McLaren 765LT a fire-breathing follow-up to the already amazing 675. Allow me to bring you up to speed on 7 reasons why the 2021 McLaren 765LT isn’t just a faster follow up to an already fast follow up.

It’s fast 0-100.

Starting off with addressing the elephant or rather the McLaren in the room, it is no doubt that the 765LT is fast, with the added power, downforce and diet programme launching the British rocket from 0-100 in 2.8 seconds. Putting this into perspective, the Honda Civic 1.5 TCP hits 0-100 kmph in 8.4 seconds which is not exactly slow. But this means the 765LT hits the century sprint THREE whole times faster, marinate on that.

It’s even faster 0-200.

While its zero-to-100-kmph time is only a tenth quicker than the 720S, the LT will also hit 200 kmph a whopping 1.2 seconds before the S. To add another visualisation into this, the aforementioned Honda Civic 1.5 TCP could be given a 10 second head start and the 765LT will overtake it within the next 10 seconds at full throttle. For those of you with a taste for drag racing, you know that this is incredible.

Same same but different.

In the middle of the 765LT sits a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that is also featured in its 720S sibling. But it’s pushing out 45 more horsepowers. Now that doesn’t sound like much, but McLaren have somehow managed to push out the performance of half a 2020 1.5 Perodua Myvi without making the engine any bigger.

Less can also be more.

With the weight reduction, you’d expect the cabin to be bare bones, however like any good McLaren, it can be customized with a mix of soft-grain leather and faux-suede Alcantara upholstery as well as myriad color combinations. It however comes with lightweight seats, removed carpet, and thinner-gauge glass to supplement the weight reduction for added performance.

Modern necessities where you need it or don’t.

To keep the modern speed enthusiast connected with the world, there is an 8.0-inch touchscreen mounted in between the front-seat passengers. There is also an optional four-speaker sound system and a top of the range powerful Bowers & Wilkins audio system. These items can of course be deleted at no cost if keeping your McLaren as light as possible is your primary focus. We however appreciate a banging sound system especially if it’s a given option.

Drivers visibility remains an absolute gem.

As expected, the view out of the cockpit is sublime and remains one of the best in the business with fantastic outward visibility and only the essential controls in view to truly keep your mind of the drive. In cars like this who naturally sit very low, McLaren has time and time again come out on top for some of the best cockpit arrangements in the business.

Meet your Heroes.

The McLaren 765LT bears plenty of knick knacks inspired from the Almighty Mclaren Senna which is something many of us would really want to get our grubby little hands on. This of course translates to better downforce, sharper chassis adjustments and an unmistakable road presence. Longer, lighter and definitely faster, what’s not to love? McLaren also only plans to only make 765 of these 765LT’s which certainly makes it one to look out for.
